Chiropractors in Metro Melbourne can finally provide unrestricted face-to-face care. This includes routine and preventative care for all ages and all stages of life.
The previous steps did leave many of us a little confused and uncertain. Rather than call and enquire whether they met the strict criteria for care, they decided to hold off just a little while longer.
If this were you, fear no more. Our doors are open, we have a Covid Safe Plan in place, and we follow the strict hygiene protocols set by the Australian government.

Resumption of Routine Face-to-Face Care in Metropolitan Melbourne
Requirements for Clinical Services in Metro Melbourne
All Ahpra registered health workers including CHIROPRACTORS - and in addition, social work, speech pathology, dietetics, audiology, exercise physiology, orthotists and prosthetists, orthoptists, art therapists and music therapists
- may provide routine and preventative care for individual patients.
- Telehealth should remain the first preference for service delivery and be provided wherever clinically appropriate.
- Indoor group classes are not permitted.
- Outdoor classes are permitted with a maximum of 2 patients to 1 health professional.
- Hydrotherapy services may be provided 1:1 in an indoor pool are permitted (1 health professional to 1 patient). No group sessions are permitted, however a maximum of 10 people are permitted in a hydrotherapy pool at any given time with services provided 1:1 with density quotients (i.e. 5 health professionals and 5 clients).
- Gyms remain closed.
- Treatment of more than one person in an open clinical space is permitted with density quotients. The provision of treatment to more than one patient in open clinical space differs to group therapy in that the treatments must still be delivered 1:1 (1 health professional to 1 patient). Density quotients strictly apply with health professionals also included within these numbers.
- Home visits may be provided with strict infection prevention and control and use of PPE.
Remedial Massage Therapy, Nutrition, Myotherapy and Naturopathy
Restrictions for ‘other health workers’ (not included within the provisions for permitted work premises or elsewhere classified)
Remain unchanged, with care permitted only for a limited number of clinical indicators and as part of an endorsed care plan:
- Face-to-face care provided as part of a Chronic Disease Management plan and/or a care plan endorsed by NDIS (including self-managed plans), TAC, Workcover or DVA - if care is required to prevent a significant change/deterioration in functional independence necessitating escalation of care (e.g. an increase in frequency of treatment needed, an increased need, for prescription medication due to a significant increase in pain, requirement for specialist input or review, an increase in care needs, and/or a substantial increase to anticipated recovery time associated with a delay in receiving services).
- Telehealth should remain the first preference for service delivery and be provided wherever clinically appropriate.
At this point in time DHHS is anticipating that there will be a further easing of restrictions and move to the full ‘third step’ of the recovery roadmap for metropolitan Melbourne, from 1 November, pending the advice of the public health team.
- Chiropractic is Open and Unrestricted.
- Nutritional consultations are still available via phone or zoom only.
- Remedial massage is sadly paused. But stay tuned as we expect further easing to be announced this Sunday
